Procedure for student visa

Understanding the VLS-TS Visa:
  • This visa allows international students to study in France for more than 3 months.
  • It acts as both a visa and a residency permit for the duration of your studies, provided you validate it upon arrival.
  • For validation, contact the OFII (Office Français de l’Immigration et de l’Intégration) website (www.ofii.fr) as soon as you reach France.

Applying for the VLS-TS Visa:
  • You can only apply for this visa after receiving your enrollment confirmation from the university.

Creating your Campus France Account:

  • When creating your online account, use your permanent address (parents' residence or current school address) for easier assignment to the nearest French consulate.
  • Once your Campus France application is processed, check the assigned consulate's website for the specific documents required for your visa application.

Scheduling your Visa Appointment:

  • Visit the website of your assigned French consulate to book an in-person visa appointment. Slots fill up quickly, so check frequently for cancellations.
  • Schedule your appointment at least two weeks before your departure, ideally 6-8 weeks prior, as you cannot study in France without a visa.

Attending your Visa Interview:

Ensure you bring the following to your interview:
  • The visa processing fee (amount can be mentioned here with a conversion app to show equivalent in INR and USD)
  • All required official documents
  • Photocopies of all documents

Note: The consulate does not provide photocopying services. Missing documents will require rescheduling and paying the fee again.

Visa processing typically takes 5-7 business days. Once approved, your passport will be stamped and returned securely.

Arrival in France:

  • Register with the local immigration office within days of your arrival. Check the consulate's website to see if you need to fill out the OFII form.
  • If required, submit the OFII form and your visa-stamped passport to the OFII (instructions provided on the form). This must be done within the first three months of your stay in France.
